Service Description
Lone Oak Leaders Circle, a book club format designed to promote a community of continuous learning, personal development, and leadership growth through the lens of equine wisdom drawn from Kelly Wendorf's "Flying Lead Change: 56 Million Years of Wisdom for Leading and Living.” Faculty, staff, and School of Social Work students are invited to participate alongside Lone Oak community members with a focus on women. This group will consist of four, 1.5 hour-long, virtual sessions Wednesday evenings in February. Participants will read to prepare for sessions with homework in between. Session 1: Listening and Care - This is the starting point for all leadership, in which we suspend our biases and preferences. We then explore the ancient, indigenous understanding of care that is reciprocal, empathic, and beneficial to all. Session 2: Presence and Safety - Meeting the here and now with vulnerability, openness, and stable foundation and how a masterful leader creates a sense of group resilience and strength by “leading from behind” for the welfare of all. Session 3: Connection and Peace - Ways to move away from coercion and force to promote genuine communication and belonging while also creating group harmony right now through the surprising concepts of “congruence” and “tempo.” Session 4: Freedom and Joy - Returning to our wild nature that is inherently free, unbridled, and unbroken while moving beyond happiness to a state of wholehearted engagement of life, whatever the circumstances. Participants will purchase their own copy of "Flying Lead Change" available in paperback, ebook, and audible.
