This is Your Brain on Music
By: Daniel J Levitin, PhD
Dr. Levitin is a neuroscientist, cognitive psychologist, and session musician who explores the connection between music and the human brain. He looks at the effects of music on the mind, using examples ranging from Mozart, to Metallica, to “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”. Levitin addresses how composers use music to affect the way our brains make sense of the world, and even theorizes how humans emotionally attach to music. According to Levitin, music is more fundamental to humans than language.
